The Tower of Babel (4)
The Tower of Babel (4)
"Unity of purpose"
It may seem to some people that God was afraid of the capacity of the people of Babel when He said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them."
God meant what He said about nothing being impossible for any group of people planning and acting with a singular purpose and unified mode of communication to achieve a thing, and as a result He put an abrupt end to their ungodliness and disregard for Him.
God stopped the devil and his legion of fallen angels, Adam and Eve (the first representatives of mankind), as well as the people of Babel as proof that the statement He made could not be truly accomplished without His approval, that He may be glorified in the final outcome.
If you are asking "Why?", the simple truth is that there can be no complete "Unity" between a group of people talk less of total success without God allowing it.The end of the account of the Tower of Babel is indeed proof of this.
Note that the way the people in Babel agreed to build the tower and God intimating us of it being possible which made Him come down to see what the people were building, was the same way in Matthew 18: 19 - 20, that God reaffirmed such power of "Unity of purpose" when He said,
19. “..., truly I tell you that if two of you on earth agree about anything they ask for, it will be done for them by my Father in heaven.
20. For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.”
We should therefore apply this reoccurring principle of "Unity of purpose" into our lives, for our own good and to glorify God and not to achieve fleshly glory that have no godly significance.
