What Do You Have in your Hand (2)
What Do You Have in your Hand (2)
EXAMPLES:
As for the New Testament, two of such stories that serve as pertinent examples of what people have used what God has gifted them with to meet there own needs and that of others, that easily came to mind are:
1. How Jesus fed five thousand people with 5 loaves and 2 fish, gathering 12 basketfuls of broken pieces as leftovers.
2. How Jesus fed four thousand with seven loaves and a few small fish and how 7 basketfuls were gathered to the glory of God and the benefit of the people around.
While these are accounts of how God blessed the little supply found with people into abundance, the truth is that, "Abundance requires hard work, or shall I say, "Smart" work, in most cases."
Don't get me wrong though. Miracles are our heritage and portion and unmerited Favour and increase will come our way as God deems fit but we must not ignore the place of smart-work and excellence in the service of our God.
The most important example in human history however is the example our God and Father set for us by giving up His one and only son into the hands of evil men in substitution for the redemption of mankind.
He gave the best of what He had to get the best of what He created back.
In Psalm 126: 5 to 6, it is written,
5. Those who sow with tears will reap with songs of joy and
6. Those who go out weeping, carrying seed to sow, will return with songs of joy, carrying sheaves with them.
God's principles of reaping after sowing will continue as long as the earth endures.
Unfortunately, many youths in the society today, after graduating from tertiary institutions, go in search for government jobs as a source of secure and steady income, especially due to the advent of dwindling GDP income from crude oil exports to fund the nations budget.
When asked to use "what they have in their hands" to start to make a living since the job they desire are quite hard to come by, many point to lack of adequate finance as the reason they haven't embarked upon starting up a business venture from what they have a flare for or are talented to do.
FINANCE:
While lack of finance is a valid reason it is also a lazy mans excuse.
One can always start on a low-paying job orstart-up a small venture as a means to an end, until one grows the capital one needs to move into bigger - better things.
God's principle for the continued existence of mankind has not changed and still is:
“The one who is unwilling to work shall not eat.” 2 Thessalonians 3: 10.
When God created mankind, as in Genesis 2: 15,He put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it.
God made "Work" is an integral part of human existence.
This is a short account of how the disciples of Jesus Christ lived their lives, written in a letter to encourage their own followers:
7. "For you yourselves know how you ought to follow our example. We were not idle when we were with you,
8. nor did we eat anyone's food without paying for it. On the contrary, we worked night and day, laboring and toiling so that we would not be a burden to any of you.
9. We did this, not because we do not have the right to such help, but in order to offer ourselves as a model for you to imitate.
2 Thessalonians 3: 7 to 9.
Now, back to you..
What do you have in your hand?
What has God given you a comparative advantage than other people that you can use to get some sort of income for yourself, no matter how small it may seem?
What venture interests you that you may be able to turn into a money spinner?
Lastly, what skill or venture has God opportuned you to learn about, whether you like to go into it or not, that can give you income for the meanwhile pending when something better comes up?
What do you have in your hand?
Use it now.
