The Covenant

The Covenant

God Almighty is a god of covenant and indeed a covenant keeping god.
Of all the covenants He has established with mankind none stands out as much as the covenant first recorded in Genesis 17: 7 which goes thus:

"I will establish my covenant as an everlasting covenant between me and you and your descendants after you for the generations to come, to be your God and the God of your descendants after you."

This same covenant is reiterated in several ways after that as well as the 1st of the 10 commandments that He handed down to Moses, to govern the relationship His people, Israel should have with Him and their fellow man. One of such is, Leviticus 26:11 to 12, where God said:

11. I will put my dwelling place among you, and I will not abhor you.
12. I will walk among you and be your God, and you will be my people.

A Covenant is essentially:
1. a binding agreement or promise
2. between 2 or more parties, &
3. especially for the performance of some action.

God's covenant to be our God and the God of our descendants after us can only be initiated by another one, "The Covenant of Circumcision" which is a man's pledge or promise to God to be Set Apart, solely for His use and in turn God Almighty promised to reiterate the gesture by making him very fruitful & making nations & kings to come from that persons lineage as in Genesis 17:6.

The Covenant of Circumcision which requires the removal of ones foreskin however was just a shadow and forerunner of better things to come. It was just a precursor to the circumcision of our hearts, by the Spirit, and not by the written code, which is the Old Testament law of Circumcision. (Romans 2:29)

This covenant was summarised as a law and the most important commandment under the dispensation of grace that came about as a result of our Lord Jesus Christ in the New Testament as this:

30. "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and with all your strength.'
31. The second is this: 'Love your neighbor as yourself.' There is no commandment greater than these.”

(Mark 12:30 to 31).

As Jesus Christ said in Mark 12:34, to the man who acknowledged the truth that the portion of Scripture above is the greatest commandment, “You are not far from the kingdom of God!” so I believe he says to all of us because the only thing that stands between us and Gods Kingdom is our belief and obedience of that scripture or lack thereof.

Have you signed up to the relationship agreement between mankind & God?
He desires to walk with you and be your God throughout your life till you reach the destination He has prepared for all His people, if you will choose to be one of them.

He calls out to you today, saying:
28. “Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.
29. Take my yoke upon you and learn from me,
for I am gentle and humble in heart,
and you will find rest for your souls.
30. For my yoke is easy and my burden is light.” (Matthew 11:28 to 30).

Today is all we are assured of in this life.
Please accept His offer and begin to enjoy the abundant life in Christ Jesus He has in store for you.

Shalom
